Our Vision
Rendering care for loved ones with dementia can be a long, exhausting and ambiguous journey with many sorrows and challenges. The almost universal absence of cohesive and comprehensive information, support and services adds frustration to an already burdened population of novice caregivers. The central goal of the Lynden Legacy Foundation is to provide education, information, support and other important and necessary resources to this vast group of family and friends suddenly thrown into the role of caregiver. This will be accomplished through an interwoven combination of websites, podcasts, seminars, access to knowledgeable and experienced professionals and instructional multimedia. Perhaps of greatest value will be a Caregivers Network (currently Lynette’s List) where families can find temporary help from a pool of trained professionals to provide respite, advocacy, companionship and other assistance.
Lynden Legacy will be a central clearing house for important knowledge and assistance and act as a trusted bridge between caregivers and available resources.
Cycle of Grief
Alzheimer’s gradually takes away the person you know and love. As this happens, you will mourn them and may experience different phases of the grief cycle.
Denial: convincing yourself that the person has not changed, or expecting them to get better.
Anger: being frustrated with the person, or resenting family members who will not help to provide care.
Guilt: seeking a solution in vain.
Sadness: feeling overwhelmed by loss, crying frequently, or withdrawing from social activities.
Acceptance: understanding how the grieving process affects your life, appreciating personal growth that comes from surviving loss, and accepting help from others.
